Hi Friends!!

Many of you know that I was mentoring a group of girls this past summer here in Miami who needed a little self-esteem boost. We had terrific volunteer counsellors and my brother Jeff gave all of us surfing lessons, we went jet skiing and had a full day of snorkeling at a really awesome reef that looked like an underwater dream world! We all had so much fun being outside interacting with each other that we hardly even noticed we weren’t texting!!

During our time together we worked through many self-esteem building exercises to help grow confidence. Soon each girl was showing a more self-assured glow!! I saw an uplifting of their spirit and eagerness to push forward. As I listened to each story, and those of my ongoing teen outreach, the one common factor is their lack of confidence regarding their looks and body image. I was amazed that during the summer mentor camp, that most of the girls didn’t apply sunblock or really have any kind of forward thinking about their daily skincare routine. My mom and grandma have always made skincare one of the things they have drilled into my mind. They would always say “you will thank us later Emi!” They were right! THANKS mom and grandma!  Whether living in Miami or Minneapolis, the negative effects of the sun doesn’t discriminate.
