Kalyani Projects has shipped a lot of computers to Sri Lanka and with our second shipment in 2013 we started an IT school in Monoragala, Buttala. Monoragala is the Dry Zone region of Sri-Lanka, mostly underdeveloped with almost no tourism in this district. Many of the children living in this district, have never seen a computer before. Therefore Kalyani Projects offers the children to follow a basic computer course for 3 months at the school. During the course they learn the basics of working with a computer. We really see that we make a difference here for poor children; with this basic computer knowledge they really have a chance for a better future! We started out with only 30 students, but now the school has grown and every 3 months 150 students follow the course and many others apply for lessons. With time we also decided to pay the teacher’s salary and pay for the cost of school materials and the maintenance for the building. As you can imagine, this is a long term project of which we are very proud to make this even more successful. We now have a waiting list of 500 children who really want to start following the basis computer course, but don’t have enough money to apply to the course (the course costs them 1500 rupees). For these children we are looking for sponsors and support!
