Northwest Airlines saw fit to terminate me after I was hurt on the job by pointing to my weight to get out of the work comp liability. Disabled and unemployed in 2009, just as the economy was falling, proved to be too much and by the end of the year, I lost my home. I spent the next several years living out of my car, and in 2010, I set off on a 48-state road trip in an effort to change how people view homelessness. During the many months Iwas on the road, I handed out over 1,000 pairs of socks and hundreds of cups of coffee to the homeless people I encountered along the way. I also met with various homeless organizations to learn how they operate.

In late 2012, I was able to move into a small apartment. I still find time to help others. In December 2013, The St Cloud Times Newspaper named me one of five unsung heroes of the St Cloud community.
I went on to become a TV critic for Your Entertainment Corner, a small entertainment website. Writing reviews of hit shows, I have also interviewed celebrities like James Spader, Martin Freeman, Matt Bomer and others.
I spoke at SXSW in 2015 and am hoping to return in 2016 to cover the Films at SXSW. I was granted a Film badge for 2016 but can't afford to go as I would have to come up with 100% of the expenses.
I will be representing one of the smallest media outlets at SXSW. It’s a huge opportunity to make a name for myself as a Television Critic.
This is an opportunity I can't pass up. The money would be used for car rental from Minnesota to Texas, gas and hotel expenses. Anything left over would go for rebuilding.
