Philadelphia native and resident GR Stone began playing guitar at 10 years old, and had found the piano by age 13. Though under professional weekly direction, he took an improvisational approach, and began composing music regularly on his own. He cites his main early musical inspirations as Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, and Grateful Dead. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he studied Jazz Piano Theory/Composition under the direction of Jazz greats Nathan Davis, Frank Cunimondo, Leon Lee Dorsey and Daniel May. He graduated with honors in the summer of 2010. Since moving back to Philadelphia, he has made independent strides in the local musical community. He performs both original and cover music at various music venues throughout the greater Philadelphia and tri-state areas. He also composes and scores professionally, most recently working with local FM radio and a NYC-based web-series.

GR draws inspiration for his original music all the way back from the European classical greats that he studied in Pittsburgh, equally citing the three main American musical art forms of Jazz, Folk, and Hip Hop. Stone's original compositions often tell tales of travels, relationships, and lessons in life, woven into chromatic creations inspired by all previously cited artists and genres. You can hear his work on his website GRStoneMusic.com and/or by searching ‘GR Stone’ on Soundcloud.com. @GRRStone
