IMG_20150310_165759 Meet Molly, a one year old lab mix, who has EPI. EPI, or Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, is a disease in which the pancreas either partially or fully ceases to function. The pancreas has two jobs: to produce insulin and to release digestive enzymes. The most pressing issue is the fact that Molly’s body cannot digest the food she is eating. In other words, she is literally starving to death. EPI is not a curable disease. The pancreas does not regenerate. It does not heal. It works, until it doesn't. It’s been estimated that 90% of the pancreas must be destroyed before symptoms of insufficiency are present. EPI can be managed in some dogs, but not all. Treatment includes the addition of pancreatic enzymes to EVERY meal. This allows the enzymes to do the job that her pancreas is unable to fulfill; such as digesting proteins, starches, and fats. As well as a special diet and B12 therapy. I have no idea if Molly and I will have a future together. We won't know how well her body takes to the treatment until it either does, or doesn't. I do want to give her a fighting chance, and that is why I am asking for your help. All you have to do is support this campaign by linking your twitter account to headtalker. This allows for the campaign message to be tweeted at the same time by everyone who supported this campaign. Our goal is to break the internet. If it wasn't for the fact every bone in her body is showing, you couldn't tell that Molly is sick. She is such a cheerful, loving dog who loves people. I hope Molly gets better so we can live life to the fullest together. Molly means the absolute world to me. She came during a time when I desperately needed light in my life. Molly has helped with my depression, and made my life worth living. My family is currently having financial trouble and is unable to afford Molly's treatment. We know that without proper care Molly will waste away. Molly has helped me fight my battles; I just want to do the same for her.
