Snake bites kill at least 20,000 people every year worldwide; this number is estimated to be a lot higher (94,000) based on unreported bites. For many years antivenin has been the only effective treatment for venomous snake bites, saving thousands of lives every year. In 2010 the main antivenin used to treat African snake bites ceased production. This has left some of the poorest and most at-risk people in the world without an effective treatment for venomous snake bites. Remaining stocks of the required antivenin are dangerously depleted and now out of date.   I am developing a new, more productive and cheaper technique for the production of antivenin. This will enable the poorest people on the planet to get the treatment they require to save their lives.   Help me make a difference in the world!
