Hello!
My grandparents originally opened Beccles Farmers Market 17 years ago alongside two other similar markets that have since closed. It's now one of the most well-established in the region with 30 stalls, a cafe and a decent sized car-park.
In recent years footfall at the market has dropped due to a multitude of factors, but like many others I’ve grown up alongside this vibrant rural community and appreciate its importance to our heritage. I'm hoping the Food Assembly model will make it easier for families in the area to get direct access to better quality locally sourced produce.
We all know eating good food is important to improve your health & well-being but eating more locally sourced produce also reduces food miles and wastage. We don’t have the luxury of a big advertising budget or clever branding we just have good honest food – misshaped knobbly bits and all! Check out the top ten lies of advertising.
And that's why... WE NEED YOUR HELP! – Sign up to be a member before our Launch Party on April 1st and share the message with your friends!
My Background:- My name is Chloe and I usually work in the voluntary youth sector on various projects. I'm a Trustee for the #iwill campaign and on the Council of the Canal & River Trust but I've grown up attending and helping out at the farmers market - including washing up in the cafe and selling apples - which is why it has a special place in my heart.
Times have changed a lot since the market started and I appreciate the need to help modernise it's offer, which is why I'm excited to be organising a Food Assembly alongside the market. This online model has already had a great track record across the UK and Europe and I believe it's important to use it to strengthen instead of threaten the UK's traditional farmers markets.
