One Billion Drops will be an online, global platform appearing as a Google Map filled with pins. The pins will be located where existing antipoverty projects are operating, list the organizations conducting the projects, and also display any need that has been identified - all at a zoom depth that maximizes the precision of the data displayed. Using Google Maps technology, verified volunteers and organizations will have access to populate the map, modify the pins, and improve the effectiveness of all international efforts to alleviate abject world poverty.

The goal of One Billion Drops is to reduce the cost of finding projects while enhancing the results of individual organizations.

By centralizing information to precipitate the natural creation of partnerships, economic growth and development will be augmented and abject poverty will be reduced and eventually eliminated.

Abject poverty can be solved, but it will take unified efforts and partnerships. When completed, One Billion Drops will be an online, public, global platform where non-profit projects can be identified both by mission and location. Potential partners can identify where projects exist and add their own projects to the map, thus allowing augmentation and improved efficiency for the good works of so many.

FAQ

A few people have asked where the money will be spent, and on what, so that answer is below.  All money raised goes toward our efforts at completing the project.

IMPORTANT:  Nobody in our organization is paid a salary but instead are paid by outside means (jobs, savings, etc).

  • This is the initial kickoff and the $5000 will pay for:
  • Existing investments into computers and software
  • Buildout of the more technical aspects of the site (the interactive, fillable google map)
  • Modest server space Seed money to organize further fundraising events Small budget to pay a tiny staff to begin contacting existing NGOs and begin populating the map once it is completed.

The initial $5000 will get us where we need to be to begin building synergy and moving forward to complete the mission - this is only the first step.

Keeping the site updated will be the longer-term task where further funds will be needed, but it is also a future problem that we can address as the time arrives. We hope non-profits will do a lot of updating themselves when they see the benefit of OBD, and we will employ volunteers as often as possible.

"How will we achieve such a huge goal with only $5000?"

That is an excellent question. This is our first campaign, and it is a way to kick off our goals. This is not the end-all fundraiser, only a way to begin our operations. This will also not be the only fundraiser. We are perfectly aware that more money will be necessary in the future, and that $5000 is only a short-term objective. This is, however, what is needed to begin. More is better, of course, so please give anything you can!

Future expenses include:

  • As web traffic increases, we will need larger servers
  • Hackers are always a concern, so we will need somewhat sophisticated Cyber-security

Ideally, we will raise more than the $5000 (a modest goal) we are asking for, but this is only the first step. Building an organization like this, from the ground up, will be a group effort and certainly needs your help. We can't do this alone, and that is why we are asking for backers. Help Us Help the World! If you really believe in the cause, and if you are willing, please spread the word and help us reach, and hopefully exceed, our goal!
