Short Summary

Hey there, I’m George;

I’m 32 years old, I live in Greece and I’m very passionate with IT technology. I have studied Computer Science and have received a postgraduate degree in Software Development. I have worked as an IT specialist in various companies and as a freelance software developer. However, my passion is to help people learn and to assist them in finding solutions to tech issues that trouble them; this is my contribution to bringing them closer to technology.

It all began when my 84 year-old aunt asked me to teach her how to use her laptop for playing games in her spare time (which she has a lot of, for sure). It is for a fact, that the last few years, there has been a  tremendous rise in the number of such requests coming from senior people.

Thus, I came up with the idea of establishing an IT center, targeted to assisting and educating mature learners. It is, indeed, wonderful working with people, who are extremely devoted, eager and willing to learn new things, no matter how old they are!

MindTech IT Center is aiming at covering and dealing with two major fields; learning and technical support. For these two major goals to be successfully achieved, there has to be a classroom available and a small tech lab for providing support. This is where your contribution will make this dream come true. Learning, is an interactive process, multidimensional and complicated. It encompasses great communication, a playful approach and exploring new worlds of potential.  Life-long learning will help all people involved, to improve themselves, to socialise and to broaden their horizons by helping them discover a whole new world of knowledge and experience.

Your assistance will initiate the start of a thoughtful project; it will, nonetheless, help trigger the beginning of a great innovation for my hometown; aiming at facilitating learning for people too passionate and too enthusiastic, regardless of their age. Your kind financial support will go towards building the basis and the facilities to help people enhance their knowledge and thus,  improve their life quality by successfully introducing them to a new age of information and to a fascinating and promising new world. This is why you are important!!!

What We Need & What You Get

As aforementioned, two basic needs have to be covered for this project to run succesfully. In order to create a positive and effective, learning environment we need a classroom. This means that we need to purchase desks, chairs, books, a whiteboard, a couple of computers and tablets and some decorative articles that can make the place look pleasant, welcoming and cozy.

With reference to the IT support part of the project, a small lab (which will be used for learning purposes too), requires a number of tools to be acquired for it to function successfully, effectively and safely as well.

My wish is to achieve this goal and hopefully soon I will be able to forward to all of you who have been so helpful, pictures of all the happy people enjoying the fruits of your generosity and showing their sincere appreciation for your assistance and your offer. In case that the financial goal needed is not reached, the accumulated fund will go towards acquiring the necessary equipment  in order to educate and facilitate learning on a freelance basis through private lessons at the mature learners’ homes.

The Impact

With your assistance, this project will help bring IT to a generation of enthusiastic mature learners. It will foster IT learning and create the necessary conditions for senior citizens to evolve, to  acquire knowledge, to socialise and to discover a new world of possibilities. It will make them feel more connected (both literally and metaphorically) to the new world and it will have a positive impact on them and on the society as well. Successful access to smartphones, the internet and PC use will promote social integration by eliminating the barriers imposed by the lack of knowledge. This is a project aiming at proactively fighting the social isolation of seniors’ by facilitating useful IT learning and support.

Risks & Challenges

Living in a country facing so many hardships and financial issues, I was often told that my aim at starting this project is mere craziness. I am aware that the implementation of my idea might be far from easy but I sincerely believe that solidarity is the key to succeeding,  to achieving a positive social impact and to making dreams come true.
